Summary
"In a quiet riverside village in the English country, Beth's gone missing. Everyone says that she's run off with a man, that she's just a fly-by-night party girl who can't be trusted. But Nat, her best friend and fellow barmaid, doesn't believe it -- not at all. Victor, a beloved elderly bar patron, doesn't buy it either. After he ends up in the hospital due to a nasty fall, a hazy memory begins to come back to him, something seemingly important but just out of reach. Meanwhile, his daughter arrives from out of town, along with her controlling, aggressive husband. In the weeks after Victor's accident, as he struggles to recall exactly what happened, he can't escape his haze. Is it the effect of his fall, or something -- someone -- more sinister? Nat tries to help Victor remember and recover, and to piece together what has happened to Beth, but it's getting frighteningly difficult to discern who can and can't be trusted. Nat's depressed ex-boyfriend calls at all hours of the night, and her bosses at the bar seem less concerned than they should be about Beth's disappearance. Not to mention the film crew who recently arrived in town and have stirred up suspicion among the locals. As Nat's search for Beth becomes frantic, she discovers threats lurking outside every window, down every road -- even inside her own home."--, Provided by publisher
